Lucina, in Roman mythology, is the goddess of light, a surname of Juno (according to some of Diana; according to others the name of a daughter of Jupiter and Juno) derived from the root of
luceo (I shine). Lucina's festival was celebrated 1 March, on which occasion the matrons assembled in her temple, adorned it with flowers and implored a happy and brave posterity.
